A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD

The Mountain Playhouse 2024

A Year With Frog and Toad: Bio

DESIGN PROCESS

Our director wanted to keep an aspect of realism with our production of Frog and Toad. The idea was more human than small amphibian, although we were able to see hints of their size among the giant flowers. I wanted to keep the style muted, classic, but still with color and life. I hoped for a storybook page come to life for us all to enjoy.

INSPIRATION

I took inspiration from Mr. Lobel himself, drawing a lot on his style for my own drawings. But I was also influenced by Finnish author Tove Jansson's Moomins. The calm, natural background of both these series definitely inspired much of the whimsy's of the set.

SCENIC ART

I was both designer and scenic artist for Frog and Toad, so I was able to document the painting process as well. Below is a link to the scenic painting page, which includes process photos from this show!
